In a move that could redefine its AI alliances, Microsoft has added Elon Musk’s Grok to Azure AI Foundry—making the controversial xAI model available to developers and enterprises through the same platform that powers OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Elon Musk, despite an ongoing lawsuit with Microsoft and OpenAI, appeared virtually at Microsoft’s Build conference. AI chatbot Grok will be hosted on Microsoft Azure. The move places Grok AI on the same platform alongside competitors like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Meta’s models.

Starting this week, users of Azure AI Foundry will be able to purchase licences for xAI’s models under the same commercial terms as OpenAI’s — including premium access to cloud computing power and integration into Microsoft’s enterprise tools. This development gives developers “service parity” whether they choose Musk’s models or those from OpenAI.
