Apple's new top iPhone, the iPhone 12 Pro, has arrived, and it's a powerful newcomer flagship. But is it worth upgrading from the iPhone 11 Pro? We found out.

The iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max offer the best that Apple is capable of right now, but we're still left with an important question: Do you actually need everything on offer here?

Apple has said the iPhone 8 Plus will be worth up to $300 of credit if you trade it in for a new iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, or iPhone 11 Pro Max. The iPhone X will be worth $400.

So far, I can confirm, that’s true. It has a finish that is tactile and pleasing, reasonably easy to grip – it feels less likely to slip from your hands than the iPhone 11 Pro on its own.

On the other hand, the iPhone 11 Pro has a few key additions that make it stand out. And you may not have to pay full price: Walmart sells it for $575, which is $24 less than what Apple charges.

Apple, of course, added a lot more to the camera system of the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max. There are new video editing features, improved photo and video quality, and improved photography at night.

The iPhone 11 Pro Max lasted a more-than-impressive 40.5 hours in our testing. That’s the longest stretch of any phone currently listed in our ratings. And it marks a big turnaround for Apple.
