Identify Symptoms of a Failing WIN Module

Step 1: Check Electrical Power

1. Turn the ignition key to the ON position without starting the engine.
2. Use a multimeter set to DC volts.
3. Connect the black lead to a known ground (battery negative or engine block).
4. Back-probe the power wire at the WIN module with the red lead.
5. Have someone crank the engine while observing voltage. You should see 12–13V briefly during cranking.

• 0V indicates no power reaching the module.
• Fluctuating voltage may indicate a loose connection or failing ignition switch.

Step 2: Test Continuity and Resistance

1. Turn off the ignition and disconnect the WIN module.
2. Set your multimeter to ohms (Ω) and measure resistance between module terminals according to your wiring diagram. Compare readings to manufacturer specifications.
3. Use continuity mode to check wiring from the module to chassis ground and other connections. No beep indicates an open wire or poor connection.

Step 3: Verify Key Recognition and Programming

1. Connect the scan tool to the OBD port and select the WIN module.
2. Enter the vehicle’s 4-digit PIN to access secure programming mode.
3. Follow prompts to program the WIN module and transfer the Secret Key from the PCM.
4. Program existing keys or FOBs to the new WIN module and test for proper recognition. Cycle the ignition to confirm the security light behaves correctly.
