    Export and Import - The Modern JavaScript Tutorial

  1. The export statement is used to export functions, objects, or primitive values from a JavaScript module so they can be used in other programs with the import statement.

    Named Exports

    Named exports allow you to export multiple values. You can create named exports in two ways: inline individually or all at once at the bottom.

    Example:

    // Inline individually
    export const name = "Jesse";
    export const age = 40;

    // All at once at the bottom
    const name = "Jesse";
    const age = 40;
    export { name, age };
    Copied!

    Default Exports

    Default exports are used to export a single value from a module. You can only have one default export per module.

    Example:

    // Default export
    const message = () => {
    const name = "Jesse";
    const age = 40;
    return `${name} is ${age} years old.`;
    };
    export default message;
    Copied!

    Importing Modules

    You can import modules into a file in two ways, based on whether they are named exports or default exports.

      In order to use the export declaration in a source file, the file must be interpreted by the runtime as a module. In HTML, this is done by adding type="module" to the <script> tag, or by being imported by another module. Modules are automatically interpreted in strict mode.
