This historic film captures a beach apparatus drill at the former Pamet River Lifesaving Station in Truro, where surfmen trained regularly to rescue shipwrecked mariners from the rough waters off Cape Cod. In an era before helicopters and high-tech rescue boats, these drills were critical. Crews relied on skill, precision, and teamwork to fire a Lyle gun from shore, sending a line out to distressed vessels.
